  1. Hi Aly. I just started following you. I love you blog. I love makeup but I just cant afford the nice expensive stuff. I buy a lot of makeup but Im guilty of not wearing it. I dont know how to put it on. I am a pale girl with some freckles and rosy checks. What are some good starters and what are some of your basic essentials?

    1. Hi Amber! Thanks for the follow!! We are ALL guilty of buying makeup & then not wearing it! I do it all the time so don’t be too tough on yourself! And you don't need the expensive stuff to get amazing results. I think a good starter/basic makeup kit contains: Concealer, blush, mascara, a neutral trio/quad & a light lipstick. If you wear foundation clearly you will need that & a powder. This post I wrote may help: http://lifewithaly.blogspot.com/2012/08/tag-thursday-20-face.html. I also can reccomend some products (under $10) for a lighter complexion like yours & post the info on my tumblr - let me know!

  2. What's the best mascara for volume?

    1. Hey Ashley! My two favorites for volume are the Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara ($2.99) & thought relatively new I really like the Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Mascara ($7.99). Both will give you fake lashes volume.... yup that good in my opinion. I posted picks of the wands/applicators on my Tumblr for you

Another good option is you are willing to spend a bit more cash is a lash primer, like Urban Decay's Eyelash Primer Potion ($20), it will turn any blah mascara into Va-Va-Voom volume!

  3. I just discovered your blog and I love it! I love eyeshadow but when ever I wear it it does not stay on for very long, I was wondering if you know any good eyeshadow primers that are an affordable price?

    1. Hi Luv! I'm glad you like the blog :) even happier that you wrote! If you are going to spend the time on a fabulous smokey eye you of course want it to last all day! 2 Primers (under $10) that I can recommend are NYX Cosmetics Eye Shadow Base in White ($7.00) & Wet 'n' Wild Fergie Take on the Day Eyeshadow Primer ($4.99). The NYX is white & it brightens any color you use. The Wet N Wild is "flesh" colored & it works best with a Neutral Eye. They will both prolong your shadow! U can find the NYX @ Ulta or Sears & the Wet N Wild At drugstores. Posted a pic of these bad boys on my instagram for u http://instagram.com/lifewithaly XOXOXOXO Doll!

    1. Hi Tiffany!
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you! My (silly) life got in the way! I’m so happy you found my blog & even happier that you like it!
I have uneven skin tone so I totally feel your pain! To cover my uneven spots I use Primer, Color Corrector (Green To neutralize the red) & concealer – I finish it all up with Skindanavia Finishing Spray. I hate to re-apply my makeup during the day & this keeps me good for my entire work day (not including shine – damn my oily T-Zone!). I have found that primer & finishing spray, though they may seem like extra (annoying) steps, really prolong the stay of my makeup, if you have to pick one of the two go with the finishing spray BUT together they are invincible! Also waterproof concealer is your best friend when you are looking for long lasting coverage! I will dig through my makeup pile this weekend & post some product recommendations for you on my tumblr (http://lifewithaly.tumblr.com/)

  5. Hey Aly! I really like you blog! I have really started to like coral lipsticks but I cannot find one that I like and is relatively cheap. If you have any suggestions that would be great!

    1. Hi maddiegrace1022! I’m pumped you like the blog :) thanks for the support! One of the things I often tell my girlfriends is that lipsticks are one thing you don’t HAVE TO spend a lot on, especially when they are a Fad color – Coral Lips are HOT right now so kudus for being so with the times! Here is what I would suggest for you: If you want to go for a solid (everyday) coral try: Revlon Super Lustrous In Kiss Me Coral, Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick Coral Shimmer or Maybelline Color Sensational Color Whisper Lipcolor Coral Ambition. If you want to go bold & brave Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in Shocking Coral will you give you center-of-attention lips! If your lips aren’t superpigmented (have a deep color of their own) the best coral lipgloss (in my humble opinion) is Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss Coral Reef, it’s shiny & gives you a hint of coral color. If you are just experimenting & you like a more natural look/ sheer tint try either L'Oreal Colour Riche Lip Balm Caring Coral, Maybelline Color Sensational Color Whisper Lipcolor Coral Ambition or my personal fave (SOOO good!) Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in #10 Tangy Mandarine. One thing to remember is that usually depending on the depth of the color that’s the last you will get out it… The sheerer the color the more you will have to re-apply!

  6. Hi Aly,

I'm looking for a less expensive dupe of YSL Teint Radiance. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Shannon! The closest drugstore dupe is L'Oreal True Match Lumi. Nice illuminating finish just like the YSL Teint Radiance. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup Broad Spectrum Foundation is also a good match as it has the same "natural" finish. *BUT* both the L'Oreal & Neutrogena have more of a medium to full coverage versus the YSL Teint Radiance's sheer-medium coverage. Hope this helps!

  7. I notice that most, if not all, products you recommend are tested on animals. Your experience with the Wet'n'Wild makeup remover is what happens to poor little animals.

    1. Hi Lyla... Sorry it took me so long to respond. I will do a post on popular brands that do test on animals and those that don't & how you can get more information. It's always good to be an informed consumer so I appreciate you bringing attention to this issue...That being said - respectfully - "Most if not all" the products I recommend are NOT tested on animals.. Wet n Wild actually is a brand that does not test on animals. Your comment did bring my attention to making sure I double check my purchases... as the proud Mommy of 2 Akita's I would never condone the harming of animals.....

  8. Hi Aly, I have started getting more interested in make-up and I'm confused. There's face primer, foundation, concealer, highlighter, and bronzer. Could you do a tutorial on what you use and why you use it? Thanks!
